Future of Pro Rugby

Despite all the knashing of teeth over the Borders decision, the money we (the Scottish) have invested in Pro Rugby is insignificant to that of the English, and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.

The SRU don't have the money to invest, the crowds aren't big enough to take significant gate money or to attract big sponsorship, and the private money isn't there to be invested to the level required.

We have to be realistic, we are competing on a different pitch to the French and the English - it's their ball, and they will be the ones to decide the future (at least for the time being whilst the economics are in their favour).

Having watched the U18 games last night, I now fear for Pro and National rugby in Scotland. The English team is made up players linked to the big Pro teams down south, whilst the Scottish players are linked to community based Clubs, some of whom will feed into the current two Scottish based Pro teams.
