Auchenkilns: Ancient Village
I was flicking thru the most recent version of North Lanarkshires proposed Local Plan the other day, and under sites of archaeological interest I came across Auchenkilns.
Now it just so happens that the Rugby Club is based at Auchenkilns Holdings, so putting two and two together I start getting interested.
The entry makes reference to a Chapel, burial ground and village, with the map reference showing that it sits right on top of the second site that the Rugby Club has which is currently an overgrown swamp.
I've trawled the Councils archive looking for other stuff before, but this is the first time I've come across a lost village at Auchenkilns.
It probably also explains the pond that is shown on some maps, and not others.
