For if it is true, it's another death knell for politicians selling scare stories via the mass media.

The Government (however you wish to describe it), were fully responsible for the mass hysteria of the past week or so. If it turns out that it was a highly impracticable plot, then perhaps the next yarn they try to spin will be one too many.
