A80 to be Upgraded to Motorway

This will not be a popular announcement with a great many people from in and around Cumbernauld.

There have been loads of people campaigning vigorously for the motorway to be routed via the Kelvin Valley, with of of the recent arguments being that this was always the intention from the outset.

Don't know myself which route I prefer.

Certainly Kelvin Valley takes the traffic nuisance away from a major population, but it also spoils a largerly untouched scenic landscape.

I am also not clear of what the negative economic impact of taking a major orad artery away from Cumbernauld would be.
Fair enough, I can't see the shops in Cumbernauld getting much passing trade with a motorway on their doorstep, but it does remove the town from the eye of those with money to invest.

Scottish Executive announcement
